I used to say it would lovely to have a house like this one. To earn double the money and have a house in France. As if it were just a pipe dream.
I didn’t realise but all the people I envied weren’t lucky b****es. They simply made a committed decision and started to be intentionally about making it happen.
Think about it, the things you have or can do in your live, are because you made the decision and made them happen.
And the things that elude you, are those that you don’t really commit.
Why do we self sabotage our dream life?
We’re conditioned by everything we learn. To believe that there are secure choices. That money is for the rich or opportunities are scarce.
Most of us are surrounded by negative people. You know the one’s who say our ideas are stupid and plant seeds of self doubt.
They rarely support a dream they can’t understand. And sometimes we feel that too.
Then there is our old brain trying to protect us from harm. Analysing every decision. This same brain is just looking for a reference point, something that happened before or we know about that means it’s a good idea.
With any new or bold idea, it can’t find anything to say we will be ok, so it wants us to stay safe.
So how do you use the power of decision to create your dream life?
Burn the ship, our only option is to win the battle
If I think about all the years I tried to get my businesses going, in the back of my mind I always considering going back to my 9-5 was the back up plan.
When things got tuff, guess what? I admitted defeat and went back to my corporate career.
It felt easy at the time. And well I was failing anyway.
When I heard the story of the captain who made his army burn the ship so that they had only one option, to win the battle. I remember how a new perspective on burning bridges (in the mental sense) could help me to do the same.
When I drew a final line in the sand in 2021. I had made a life changing decision with no going back. No matter what it takes, how many tries. I will create the business I love for the life I want to lead.
It felt powerful. I’d taken full responsibility. With no excuses … well nearly. I have worked with such a clear vision and purpose.
From now on:
It’s this or better
You have to chose yourself your goals matter no matter what anyone else thinks.
When I read the Alchemist I finally realised that we all feel like this, that it’s easy to tell someone else how to live their life. Then to figure out our own.
When you make a life changing decision
Always remember, when things don’t work out, don’t give up.
Learn from it and try something else. Failure is inevitable.
Don’t change the Goal, change the strategy
Enjoy your journey and always look for opportunities in the direction of your dream life.
With love
