Do you ever hold yourself back from going all in? Or shelve a goal because you don’t believe you will succeed? Visualisation can be used to transform your life.

Confession time, as with my first business a few episodes into this new podcast I’m having self-doubt.

It’s more common than we think so I want to share whenever I can how we can all overcome the negative self-talk. And believe with complete confidence we can achieve our goal of more freedom, build a successful lifestyle business. Even when we feel like giving in.

Ever heard of visualisation and thought, wait there is no way that stuff works?

Well go back a few years and I’d have joined you. But then I did a lot of work in the field of neuroscience, it’s just fascinating how we can train our brain when we understand how it works.

How our very own brain can help us to make a massive change, and achieve our biggest dreams. Well the news flash is that this stuff has been scientifically proven to really work.

And like most entrepreneurs, driven women and goal setters you’re probably not short of ideas. But rarely take a single action outside the mind that tells us it won’t work.

Now for a bit of the Science on Visualisation

Neuroplasticity in our brains allows us the ability to change our thoughts. This is most influenced when we are young which is why we see a lot of parenting advice to mind what we say to our kids, as this quickly becomes their inner voice.

As we get older this becomes set in automated unconscious beliefs which tend to make decisions for us based on those stories.

The issue is that many of us have believed whatever stories for so long. We act on autopilot from outdated rules. It’s time to bring it to consciousness and rewrite them.

Visualisation is a really good technique that’s been used by athletes for many years. It’s interesting but studies show that our brain can’t determine the difference between an imagined event and a real one.

What’s more, is that research found even visualising actions strengthened related muscles in the body. Showing a massive connection between mind and body.

In addition to this, visualisation helps to prime our brain to look out for what matters. You see all the automatic thoughts are filtering and selecting based on your existing story. By giving it a new visualisation you’re priming it to be selective of anything which features or is in alignment with it.

How to visualise so that you are more likely to achieve your goals

Visualise first thing in the morning & before bed:

There’s something called the Tetris effect. This is when the mind even when you’re heading off to sleep is still replaying the images right before sleep.

This tells us the best time to do brain priming, using a technique like visualisation is the last thing at night and the first thing in the morning as we’re somewhere between sleep and fully awake. Almost that daydream state.

This suggests the time of day you visualise is very important. And most gurus will cite a morning routine with meditative visualisation.

Present state with all the senses: the smell, feelings, touch, taste, sounds

The key is to visualise in such a way it’s almost as if it’s already happening. Not a future state but placing yourself presently in that moment. Imagining and tapping into all senses.

Take action or it will only ever be a dream

A vision is fine of course but if we never take any action on it, it’s merely a dream. If your brain priming has worked you’ll start to notice the opportunities previously ignored. But you must take action on these.

I’d love to hear about your experience with visualisation and if you would like to do more in this area to create a freedom lifestyle.
